Dr. Shannon S. Joseph is a board-certified and subspecialty fellowship-trained oculofacial plastic surgeon who specializes exclusively in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyes and face. Dr. Joseph is a member of the prestigious American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Education
Dr. Joseph received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the renowned Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa National Academic Honor Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society based on scholarly achievement, character, and professionalism.
Fellowship Training
After completing her ophthalmology residency also at the top-ranked Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Joseph then underwent intensive sub-specialty fellowship training in Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Michigan.
Academic Appointments as Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Joseph is committed to leading-edge excellence in medical care and education. Prior to establishing her own practice, Dr. Joseph served as an Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Wilmer Eye Institute, and then was promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center. While maintaining busy surgical practices at Johns Hopkins and the University of Michigan, Dr. Joseph was also involved in the training of many surgical fellows and residents, including international fellows who are now prominent oculofacial plastic surgeons in other countries. Dr. Joseph has also published extensively to share her expertise in the scientific literature and has been an invited lecturer both nationally and internationally.
Institutional and National Leadership
While on faculty at the University of Michigan, Dr. Joseph served as the Medical Director of the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center Ambulatory Surgery Center and the Medical Director of the Division of Oculofacial Plastic Surgery. She also founded and co-directed the Michigan Medicine Multidisciplinary Facial Nerve Clinic at the University of Michigan. Dr. Joseph continues to serve as an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology, and an invited reviewer for the top academic journals in the fields of oculofacial plastic surgery, facial plastic surgery, ophthalmology, and otolaryngology. Dr. Joseph also serves as an editor for the oculofacial plastic surgery section of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s EyeWiki.

Dr. Joseph has expertise in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyes and face, with extensive experience in upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty, Asian eyelid surgery, forehead and eyebrow lift, minimally invasive and endoscopic surgeries (for forehead lift and tear duct surgery), autologous fat grafting, skin cancer reconstruction, eyelid malposition reconstruction, lacrimal and orbital surgery. Dr. Joseph also specializes in achieving exceptional results with a variety of non-surgical treatment including Botox and facial fillers.

In her spare time, Dr. Joseph enjoys photography, reading, traveling, and spending quality time and going on adventures with her family. Dr. Joseph is fluent in English and Mandarin.
